چکیده

We recover a general representation for the quantum state of a relativistic closed line (loop) in terms of string degrees of freedom. The general form of the loop functional splits into the product of the Eguchi functional, encoding the holographic quantum dynamics, times the Polyakov path integral, taking into account the full Bulk dynamics, times a loop effective action, which is E-mail address: [email protected] E-mail address:[email protected] E-mail address: [email protected]

Is the third coefficient of the Jones knot polynomial a quantum state of gravity?

Some time ago it was conjectured that the coefficients of an expansion of the Jones polynomial in terms of the cosmological constant could provide an infinite string of knot invariants that are solutions of the vacuum Hamiltonian constraint of quantum gravity in the loop representation. Here we discuss the status of this conjecture at third order in the cosmological constant. The calculation is...

9410210 Classical / Quantum Duality

String theory requires two kinds of loop expansion: classical (α ′) world-sheet loops with expansion parameter < T > where T is a modulus field, and quantum (¯ h) spacetime loops with expansion parameter < S > where S is the dilaton field. Four-dimensional string/string duality (a corollary of ten-dimensional string/fivebrane duality) interchanges the roles of S and T and hence interchanges cla...

Evidence for a Center Vortex Origin of the Adjoint String Tension

Wilson loops in the adjoint representation are evaluated on cooled lattices in SU(2) lattice gauge theory. It is found that the string tension of an adjoint Wilson loop vanishes, if the loop is evaluated in a sub-ensemble of configurations in which no center vortex links the loop. This result supports our recent proposal that the adjoint string tension, in the Casimir-scaling regime, can be att...

The loop representation of quantum gravity has many formal resemblances to a background-free string theory. In fact, its origins lie in attempts to treat the string theory of hadrons as an approximation to QCD, in which the strings represent flux tubes of the gauge field. A heuristic path-integral approach indicates a duality between background-free string theories and generally covariant gauge...

Universality of k-string Tensions from Holography and the Lattice

We consider large Wilson loops with quarks in higher representations in SU(N) Yang-Mills theories. We consider representations with common N -ality and check whether the expectation value of the Wilson loop depends on the specific representation or only on the N -ality. In the framework of AdS/CFT we show that 〈WR〉 = dimR exp(−σkA), namely that the string tension depends only on the N ality k b...
